GAUTENG SHEBEEN PERMIT HOLDERS CAN CONTINUE OPERATING BEYOND THE END OF OCTOBER

Court ruling

Following the Gauteng High Court ruling on Tuesday, 29 October 2019, which sought to suspend the declaration of invalidity with regards to Shebeen Regulations of 2013, Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Agriculture and Environment, Morakane Mosupyoe informs shebeen permit holders that their permits remain valid beyond the initial cut-off date of 01 November 2019.

The court gave the above temporary relief to the affected liquor traders across Gauteng after the affected parties launched an urgent application. In 2017, the court declared the 2013 Gauteng Liquor Regulations on Shebeen Licences invalid, following an application by the Yeoville/Bellevue Ratepayers’ Association.

The court extended the period of validity of the permits until the conclusion of the pending application under (case number 28873/2019) which was brought by the Department.
