New strict laws to be followed by taverns, shebeens, liquor stores, restaurants and nightclubs.

Stop the spread of Coronavirus within our townships

On Sunday, President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a national state of disaster. As part of the Disaster Management Act, government has introduced strict new measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

With IMMEDIATE effect, establishments that sell liquor must close at 18:00 on weekdays and Saturdays and at 13:00 on Sundays and public holidays. These include taverns, shebeens, liquor stores, restaurants and nightclubs that operate within our townships. All establishments may only open at 09:00 the next morning.

All on-consumption premises selling liquor which include taverns, shebeens, restaurants and nightclubs operating within our townships are not allowed to have more than 50 people at the same time – or must be closed with immediate effect.

It is of utmost importance to follow and adhere to the new state laws to stop the spread of the Coronovirus within our townships.

No special or event liquor licences will be granted during the duration of the national state of disaster.

These places must also adhere to strict hygienic conditions.
