xciting new changes are on the horizon for Spotong, South Africa’s No1 township trade magazine, with the introduction of a new size and an increased print run!
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the demand for the magazine by the market, and so we’ve made the decision to increase the print run from 11 500 to 15 000 copies per quarter which is just over 20% growth this year alone,” said Sean Press, CEO of Contact Media & Communications, publishers of Spotong magazine.
Along with the new, increased print run the magazine will also increase in size. This decision was made to accommodate more content sectors, and thus more relevant content for the Spotong reader.
Spotong remains the only exclusive township trade publication in the country and the changes not only reflect the relevance of the title but also the interest of corporate South Africa in this market and, more importantly, the unprecedented continual rise and growth of the township entrepreneur.
Further to the developments of the publication, Spotong will soon also host their annual Spotong Township Entrepreneur Summit.
“On 6 November, we will host our largest township entrepreneurs’ summit ever. This year we have a confirmed 1000 township traders attending the event, to be held at Walter Sisulu Square in Soweto,” said Press.
The venue was chosen because of its historical significance, where on 26 June 1955, 3000 representatives of the Congress of the People gathered on the then dusty square in Kliptown to draw up the Freedom Charter, an alternative vision to the repressive policies of the apartheid state.
“This is a significant venue for us, because just as history was made here in 1955 we too hope to make history with our Spotong Township Entrepreneurs Summit, in the aim to uplift the township entrepreneur,” said Press.
The Spotong Township Entrepreneurs Summit provides an invaluable platform to honour, recognise and engage with dynamic and influential township entrepreneurs who connect with their township communities and are essentially the driving force behind township economies, as well as a significant part of the greater South African economy.
Another significant part of the event is that every supplier servicing the event will be sourced from the local community. This will ensure that the event not only impacts the marketing strategies and ROI of the sponsors, but will also have an impact on the lives of local township businesses, and the local community as well.
Partners and sponsors already confirmed for the event include: Spekko Rice as the Headline Sponsor; Astral Foods; Heineken; JTI; Club 10; Fuze Consulting and United National Breweries with more to confirm participation in the coming weeks.
