Bunnahabhain’s range of un-chillfiltered single malt whiskies is produced on the Isle of Islay, in Scotland, which is known for its world-famous whiskies.
Bunnahabhain’s single malts are un-chillfiltered, which is a return to the way whisky was made at Bunnahabhain many years ago.
The judging panel comprised a broad spectrum of global wine professionals, including commercial buyers, importers, wine professionals, masters of wine, journalists and wine educators.
The whisky was also the best performer in the category of Unpeated Single Malt Scotch of 18–25 years old with cask strength of 45% and more, to bring home a double gold medal.
According to the Scotch Whisky Association, which is based in the UK, exports of the golden liquid to South Africa have been declining. In 2010, they stood at R1 951 billion; in 2011, they dropped to R1 911 b.
